...daß ihr vielleicht mal die "neue" und glückliche Melly sehen wollt.

Es ändert sich gerade viel, ich habe schon 5 Kilo abgenommen
und hoffe, daß mich noch mehr Pfunde verlassen werden.
Ich achte wieder auf gesunde Ernährung und auf mein äußeres Erscheinungsbild.
Heute haben Donna und ich mal ausprobiert, wie geglättete Haare aussehen würden.
Und das Ergebnis gefällt mir sehr, also haben wir Fotos gemacht.

A quick knit from a German laceknitting mag,
I called it "Flowerdoily" as the mag only calls it "Modell 11"...
made within one evening and I will make another one,
so I have a set for my boyfriend's Mom on her birthday in July.

Ein schnelles Projekt aus einem deutschen Strickdeckchenheft,
ich hab' es mal "Blümchendeckchen" getauft, da das Magazin es nur "Modell 11" nennt...
es wurde innerhalb eines Abends fertig und ich werde noch eines machen,
damit ich ein Set für den Geburtstag der Mom meines Freundes im Juli habe.

Memorial Day 2009

So I asked a friend the other day, what Memorial Day was all about
and then I asked "Auntie Wikipedia" about this topic too (see this article to read more).

And I had to think a lot:

So while I understand,
that the day is to commemorate all soldiers that gave their life in the wars
and I also figure that it is a great way to never forget them
and I think it is great for the families, who have been left behind,
to have a special day to remember the ones they have lost;
and also good for those, who survived, to know that they are not forgotten...
I still didn't feel comfy saying "Happy Memorial Day"

Maybe it is just my European-influenced mind
or the fact that being raised and living in Germany*

which makes me squirm at the thought of a "Happy Time" on a day
that was originally made for remembering and contemplating of all the things
those soldiers and veterans have done for their country.

On the other side I understand why the people celebrate on this day,
since most of the wars that were fought were to gain something,
to bring peace and freedom and therefore it is just right to be happy and thankful.

So I came to the conclusion that this is a day for quiet times
and also for loud celebrations, marches and music.

So with all this knowledge and thoughts and conclusions I can now shout out loud:

Happy Memorial Day, my friends!

*in Germany you get fed with the guilt of the Second World War from your first sip of breast milk and although my parents are English and were always complaining about the propaganda,
I got enough of that guilt through T.V. and school to influence me a lot. :-(

Eine Veränderung... / A change...

... des Blog-auftritts mußte dringend mal wieder her.

Irgendwie passte das Bisherige nicht mehr zu meinem jetzigen Lebensgefühl.

Leichte Pastellfarben sollen die neue Leichtigkeit des Seins in meinem Leben ausdrücken, verschiedene kräftigere Farben die neue Fröhlichkeit.
So mußte auch ein neuer Header her, der ein bisschen die Gedanken, die durch meinen Kopf schwirren, hierherträgt.
Und eine neue Schriftart, die eine neue Klarheit darstellt und zum Ausdruck bringen soll,
daß trotz vieler wirrer Gedanken doch eine absolut deutliche Linie zu erkennen ist.
Dazu ist die Titelschrift auch noch durchsichtig,
was zeigen soll, daß ich immer transparent bleiben will.

Alles in allem trägt das Ganze einfach mein "neues" Ich hierher und
ich bin sehr zufrieden und ich hoffe Euch gefällt es auch!

Somehow the presentation didn't fit my current lifestyle any longer.

Light pastel colours representing the new lightness in my life,
brighter and more cheerful colours the new joy in it.
I also designed a new header image, which shows you
the many thoughts going through my mind right now.
And a new title-font, which is very clear and not so playful has been chosen to express that
despite many confused thoughts there is a absolute clarity
and a straight line to be seen in my "new" life.
And I made that title-font to look through,
to show you that I am intending to stay as transparent on this blog as I was until now.

All in all, the whole thing represents simply my "new self" here,
and I am very satisfied and I hope you like it too!

na, das Strickkörbchen!

Irgendwie wird hier gerade nichts fertig, aber der Startfinger juckt schon sehr.
Da heißt es "Stark Sein" und Durchhaltevermögen zeigen.

Und weil das eben so ist, wie es ist, gibt es nur einen kleinen Blick ins Körbchen

Seit Samstag habe ich kräftige, fast unerträgliche Schmerzen in der linken Schulter...
es ist so schlimm, daß ich fast garnicht mehr schlafen kann,
so hat es mich heute zum Orthopäden getrieben.
Wer hätte gedacht, daß eine eingeklemmte und entzündete Nervenwurzel im Halswirbelbereich solche Schmerzen in Schulter und Arm hervorrufen könnte...
also ich nicht, aber eigentlich bin ich ja auch dämlich...
habe ich alles vergessen,
was ich über Anatomie im Rahmen meiner Ausbildung zur ZMA gelernt habe?...

komischerweise schwinden die Schmerzen, wenn ich kräftig die Nadeln schwinge ...
was ich ja in letzter Zeit sträflich vernachlässigt habe.
Da sieht man mal wieder: Die therapeutische Wirkung des Strickens

So, nun aber zum Titel dieses Postes:

Warum ich ein Dino bin?

Naja, die Diagnose ist "Cervicobrachiales Syndrom",
klingt doch verdächtig nach einem Brachiosaurus, oder? *gacker*

Since saturday I've been in pain, my shoulder hurt me so badly, that I couldn't sleep at all.
So I went to the doctor today. Who would have thought that a trapped and inflamed nerve root in the neck could cause such pain...
well I didn't, but I am stupid sometimes I could have remembered all the anatomy I have learned about while being trained as a dentist's assistant...

Funny enough: The pain eases when I knit.
So this teaches us once again about the therapeutical aspects of knitting...lol

But now I wanted to tell you the reason for the title of this blog post:

Why is Melly a dinosaur?

Ha, that's just a piece of cake, the diagnosis was "cerviobrachial syndrome"
it just sounds like Brachiosaurus...don't you think? *giggles*

C.J.'s First Holy Communion / Cynthias Erste Heilige Kommunion

Endlich war es soweit ... der große Tag ist gekommen!

Ich war so aufgeregt, ich konnte die halbe Nacht nicht schlafen (was wohl auch an den grauenvollen Schulterschmerzen lag, die mich seit Samstag plagen).

Cynthia war relativ unaufgeregt, wenn auch etwas lebhafter als sonst
(geht das eigentlich?... das Kind hat auch sonst immer Hummeln im Hintern...*lach*)
Aber was quatsch ich hier vor mich hin, ich zeig Euch mal ein paar Fotos, ja?

Während des Gottesdienstes durften leider keine Fotos gemacht werden, dafür haben wir vor und nach der Messe kräftig die Fotoapparate klicken lassen.

Der Gottesdienst war sehr schön, die Kommunion war festlich aber doch kindgerecht (mit flotten Liedern) gestaltet ... und die Kinder haben so gestrahlt! Meine beiden Großen haben ihren Messdienst wunderbar absolviert und ich bin so stolz auf meine DREI.

Ach, wie auch bei den beiden anderen war es einfach zum Niederknien schön!

Superglücklich bin ich auch über die Wahl des Kleides:

schlicht, aber dennoch elegant, dem Anlass angemessen, aber trotzdem kindgerecht.

Manch anderem Kind hat man schon angesehen, wie unwohl und "überbekleidet" es

sich im bodenlangen Kleid mit Reifrock fühlte.

Der Nachmittag verlief recht ruhig, wir feierten zuhause mit Taufpaten und guten Nachbarsfreunden und haben guten Kuchen, den Donna extra für diesen Tag gebacken hat, gegessen...*gg*

Am Abend ging es dann noch zur Dankandacht.

Alles in allem war es ein wunderschöner Tag,
bei dem nur eine (mir ganz arg liebe) Person schrecklich gefehlt hat.
Aber ich weiß, daß er in Gedanken bei uns war! :-)

Just rambling about Cyn's first Holy Communion...

it was a wonderful service with wonderful kids and we had wonderful weather too.

Most of the kids were a tad bit overdressed and you could see how uncomfy
they were in there "bride-like" dresses, so I was very happy (once again) about the choice of dress that we made: pretty and festive and yet suitable for a child of 9 years.

After the mass we had normal dinner at home and then the godparents and good friends and neighbours came over for coffee and cake.
We had very much fun and it was a very nice afternoon!

Just one person, who is very dear to me, was missing!
But I know that he was with us in his thoughts! :-)

Girl's Day 2009

Heute war "Girl's Day - Mädchenzukunftstag".
Statt zur Schule zu gehen, durfte meine Große heute bei Fujisu
(bis vor kurzem "Fujitsu-Siemens") in typische Männerberufe reinschnuppern,
um zu testen, ob sie später mal einen technischen oder naturwissenschaftlichen Beruf ergreifen möchte.

Sie hatte viel Spaß und einiges zu erzählen.
Donna und noch 29 andere Mädchen machten eine Rallye durch's Firmengelände, durften löten, eine Computerverpackung designen und haben ein elektrisches Geschicklichkeitsspiel gebastelt. Zwischendurch wurden sie mit gutem Essen versorgt und hatten einfach viel Spaß.
Alles in allem war es eine tolle Erfahrung und sie konnte gute Einblicke gewinnen.

Girls from age 12 onwards didn't have to go to school but went to learn more about technical a.k.a. "men's" occupations in different firms around Germany. My daughter Donna got a spot in the firm "Fujitsu" (former "Fujitsu-Siemens"). They learned lots of stuff and had a great time.
